The UEA Gig List 1963-2017 Book
Saturday 1st December 2018
Show: 2:49 PM Doors: 1:49 PM
The LCR | The LCR, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, United Kingdom
This book is dedicated to the staff, artists, performers and especially all the gig goers who’ve enjoyed their visits to UEA and the LCR over the last 54 years.
'This is an attempt to list all the gigs and events that UEA
Students Union held over the last 50+ years.
I was inspired to compile this, following the sudden loss of Nick Rayns in April ’13, my friend
and colleague for 34 years, who was head of the finest gig programme of any Student Union in the
country.
There are lots of Charity events, Thursday LCRs, Club Retros, Tuesday fancy dress nights, Skool
Daze, Brighton Rocks, Now 90s, Poetry readings, Pam’s House, Band competitions, Dance Shows,
Plays, student bands, Raves and Clubs that aren’t included. But hopefully some of your highlights
and memories are here.
To the best of my knowledge everything is correct, but I would be pleased to hear from anyone who
has further details or information that can develop the project.' Gavin Hudson (Assistant Venue
Manager)
In 1976, UEA’s then Vice-Chancellor cancelled the Sex Pistols. 40
years later UEA wanted to make amends so set aside some web pages to showcase its history of
hosting gigs from 1963 to today and invited academics, alumni, performers and local music-lovers
to contribute memories. The gig going public also responded magnificently via the @UEAgighistory
Twitter feed by providing an additional bank of memorabilia to add to the Union’s own archive of
posters, tickets and photos. None of this would have been possible without the Gig List compiled
by Gavin and it’s reproduced in this book in all its imperfect glory. Happy reading.
